I live in a manufactured home that has fiberboard cabinets covered in what appears to be wallpaper. How do I refinish these cabinets?

You really can’t “refinish” these cabinets but you might be able to fix them up!

Can you peel or scrape the “wallpaper” off and replace it with something different? And then cover it with a sealer?

Can you paint over the wallpaper for an entirely new look? Is there somewhere you could try out a new color that’s not too obvious? If it really is “wallpaper” there are techniques and paints that work well.

Consider “open shelves” and remove some or all of the doors.

This is going to take some more research on your part -keep asking questions!

Fiberboard is a terrible product to deal with! It is literally flakes of wood glued together and over time, it deteriorates and begins to fall apart. Do you know if the covering is original or added after? If added after, it is likely covering breaking down fiberboard. Your best best other than complete replacement might be to reface them with thin wood board.

You could use Blinds or Curtains instead or doors. or Put" Contact" Sticky backed Plastic over them - Or replace the doors with Framed doors and insert with Perspex or Chicken wire etc.....

Lightly sand to remove any gloss and roughen the surface for paint. Prime with a good stain blocking primer like Zinsser 123, BIN, or Kilz. Then paint with an acrylic latex paint. Seal with at least three coats of a water based polyurethane. Use a foam roller and foam brush for a smooth finish.

Is it vinyl paper you can just rip off? The main thing is don't get those cabinets wet, they will swell and be destroyed if there is no laminate surface underneath. Give us a picture.

You could also try to contact your home manufacturer, for this you need the model, year and serial number, usually there is a metal plate somewhere with this info.
