Get those old time white sash rods with eyelet type ends for the upper and lower edge of each window. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Mainstays-White-Sash-Rod-5-16-Diameter-21-38-Length/50015125

I frequently find great curtains at the thrift stores, like Goodwill, Humane Society and St. Vinnies. You can always make a pair shorter with a piece of fusible Stitch Witchery you iron the folded ends shut.

You can also make small curtains with thriftstore pillow cases, usually a $1 at the thrift stores. I have made a lot of curtains for the ladies with old lace tableclothes I got at the thrift store.

If your looking to make beds, with your skills you should be able to make sleeping pallets from pallets for each mattress or 3" camping foam. I would make each platform smaller than the other, Fasten one to the wall at a height where two on casters can roll under each other to form trundel beds.
