DIY Faux Capiz Trinket Boxes

We've all seen those adorable faux capiz chandeliers made out of ironed wax paper shells posted around blogland. I wondered why more craft items haven't been made using this technique and so I set about making cute trinket boxes using sheets of wax paper ironed together and cut into "tiles" to glue onto paper mache boxes.
Four sheets of wax paper ironed together to mimic the look of capiz shells.
Cut into strips the width of the box . . .
. . . and then into "tiles" and glued down.
Once dry, the tiles are painted with white and gold metallic pearl acrylic to add a shimmery effect like real capiz shells.
Crystal balls are added to the tops. How cute are these to store your favorite mementos!

CUTE! Beats the price of real capiz shells. p.s.- years ago....did a project ironing shaved crayons between wax paper until they melted. Looks kinda nifty
