HELP! How to remove fingerprint smudges off stainless steel fridge?

Question

I have a lovely new stainless steel refrigerator.  Of course I knew there would be fingerprints to remove, this is ridiculous!  I've used stainless steel cleaner, windex & just plain old water to no avail.  There has to be a secret that someone can share that really works!

I used to work in a laundry that had stainless all over, talk about water spots, etc..  Thay taught me to use Old English oil polish & clean, for furniture . A couple of drops on a clean rag. wipe down the frig.  Usually, I just buffed it into the metal until it no longer was oily.  Works great on chrome, too.  Make sure it's clear oil, I never had anything else so I can't say if a wax or spray would work or not.

Norwex has the perfect rags for it. They shine like new and take finger prints right off. I would nt be without them. They also have a paste. I would contact a Norwex dealer.

I had stainless steel back in the 60s...hated it! Still hate it! Will never have it again! I do not like anything in my kitchen that requires that much effort to keep me from going into a frenzy! I could not survive seeing every fingerprint in my kitchen! Good luck!

Steel Meister actually (somehow) reduces the visible smudges. I use Viking Microfiber cleaning cloths for EVERYTHING in my house. They are the best microfiber cloths I've found, and I've tried a lot. I get them in the car care section of my grocery store, not the cleaning section.

I clean professionally so I've tried everything...the Steel Meister actually works the best with a bit of buffing with a microfiber cloth. I like the Steel Meister wipes better than their spray (that way you don't have over spray on your floor). I personally do not have stainless and will not...too much work involved in a kitchen for me. Good luck!

my husband sells appliances; some stainless appliances are now coated with a plastic-type finish over the stainless steel, and scrubbing, or using harsh chemicals, will remove part of that, leaving it look worse. I use a Norwex microfiber cloth with HOT water only on ours. The hot water melts grease from the finger print, the Norwex cloth grabs the grease and any food particles and you are done. I would never use cleaning paste or any chemical other than hot water.  The latest appliance finish they are starting to sell is just a plain gray or platinum... like the white or black finishes, only in matte gray. I can't wait to get rid of my stainless.

I love my stainless steel appliances! And I have tried so many different products because of people's suggestions about how great they worked. None really did the job for me, until I found Steel Meister, which is sold by Home Depot! It is so wonderful. I applied it to my appliances with a micro fiber cloth and I couldn't believe the difference in the before and after! Plus, it resists future fingerprints! I don't have to shine them nearly as often now!

BTW, if you decide to try it, it is not with the other cleaning products at Home Depot. It is in the appliance department... mine was on the back wall. I looked all over before I finally asked customer service. They had to look it up, but finally found it!

Tabby is right. I also use hot water and a drop of dish soap, rinse it again with hot water. I use a micro-fiber cloth and I dry it with a lint free cloth going with the grain. Many people spray cleaner directly onto the stainless steel it will damage it. If you use any cleaner unless it is suggested by the manufactor and spray it directly on it can damage it.

thanks for the tip. We use to have a titanium finish, but they are no longer made. We needed a counter depth giving less choices. We chose the LG brand. Norwex choice.

An oil will continue to bild up and will eventually not work. Truthfully, and I am not a norwex dealer, it is the best.

I ACCIDENTLY FOUND A SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM THIS AM! We had to get a new thingie that fits in the bottom of the sink in my kitchen. With it came a new stainless steel stopper. Since the neighborhood is having a garage sale to raise money for a new entrance sign, I decided to clean up the old stopper and put it in the sale...15 cents is 15 cents. So I washed it good and it was dull. I then took a dry micro fiber cloth and dried it. I noticed it began to look 'polished' so I took a minute and buffed it...very little effort. It looked as pretty as the new one! I would keep a few dry micro fiber clothes around for my stainless!

Hi Patty, hope this helps you out,

A 1:1 solution of water and rubbing alcohol can be used to remove fingerprints. Simply mix the solution in a bowl or spray bottle, then use it to dampen a microfiber cloth. Wipe down the stainless steel surface, moving in the direction of the grain, then buff with a soft cloth or paper towel.

I keep a spray bottle full of vinegar under the sink this removes fingerprints and stains without harming the fridge I do use micro fiber towels to remove the vinegar.
