I was working on a large bookcase painting job and was waiting for a layer to dry... There on the wall was an old Wall Switch Plate.. Needed a new one! I had looked for a couple of new ones when I went to get the second quart of paint for my project, lol not good at my estimation skills yet.. and thought i would just wait, budget ya know! ... But then!.........there was the switchplate and there were my paints, and there i was just standing around waiting for paint to dry..
Old and in the way of boring.. :(
Sanded lightly with fine 220 paper and wiped clean..
Wasn't thinking of a before shot.. But my next project post will include more of the Bookcase Re Do... can you see the boring wallswitch way over there on the right... ? Kinda blends in..
So here are the supplies. Acrylic Paint, Brushes, Cup of water, Clean paper towel and a good Acrylic clear sealer.. These are all water based, clean up easy paints... Small jars from you local Craft Supply Big Box store..

Went online to find some inspiration pictures, your choice!
Just started to mess around with the paint, Looked good? it stayed... Looked bad? it got wiped off... Here it is after the clear sealer dried.
Switch Plate is no longer boring and adds to the Decor' of the room revival... :) Now to do the other plate which is behind the top of the desk, hiding..

Great looking switchplates. What is the color that you used on the bookcase, it is beautiful.

  • Do you think this could this be done with mod podge and scrap booking paper?

The switch plates are really great! I love the design style you chose, one of my favorites, what did you use for your online search criteria, I don't know what that style is called. Thanks for sharing

  • Very pretty. You'd think in this day and age, there would be prettier switch plates. I don't have your talent but if you check out "acrylic pours" you could use this technique for all your plates.

A funky wall paper would work too. You have inspired me!
