it is probably only the varnish that is damaged, so you should just need to rub it down and revarnish it.
I had water marks on my dark oak table and I read this tip.Place a cotton dish towel over the affected area and ironed over it without the steam.The heat will lift the water out which will be absorbed by the towel.It worked for me.Then just use a wood polish afterwards and it comes up like new😍
