There comes a time with anything that has been used on a daily basis over the years such as kitchen counters, that it is just too worn out to have any life in it to be resuscitated. Out with the old, and in with the new.

If you posted a picture of your counters, and some details as to what you think they might be made out of, more Hometalkers would be able to address your question with specific answers to your situation.

Lois, my house is 45/50 years old. It has old vinyl top countertops. Overf the years they have stained and I put a hot pan on as well and it left a big circle. I painted them with silver and black gloss pain swirly. and a clear waterproof topcoat. they look nice and my fridge and stove are black and white walls. If i ever retouch them I will use more silver as I keep loosing things on a black countertop. black car keys, ect, not a big deal but i would like it lighter a bit. U can use any color, rustoleum is good
