I have uses a wall paper remover. You will also need a tool that socres the wall paper first. This lets the remover get to the glue. Then scrap it off.
When I stripped the walls where I used to live,I first pulled the paper off wherever it was loose or coming unglued.You don't have to get it all off.Then I mixed 1/4 cup of blue Dawn in a bucket and used an old hand towel to wet the walls in an area I could work with pretty fast.Then I just peeled it off very easily with my hands.Don't use a scraper because you will leave ugly gouges and scratches on the drywall.
Yes,blue Dawn dish soap . It breaks down the glue to make it let go.You can use whatever holds enough water to wet the paper but not have water running down the walls.That will cause the drywall to crumble.
I started with hot water and fabric softener (maybe 5 parts water/1 part softener) You can add more softener if you want. Tear a corner of paper away and spray the part that is loose, with the water/softener. Let set for a while and it will soak down thru the back side of the paper. Peels off like you are peeling a sunburn! No soapy residue .
I did the steam way when I replaced the contact paper someone put on the stairway wall to the basement from the entry way to the house. I used my hand held clothes steamer and it worked great once I got rid of most of the vinyl so the steam could do its work. Made the job real easy. New wallpaper looked much better than contact paper, not gaudy anymore. One of many oops in the VA foreclosed house we bought back in the eighties.

Try scoring the wallpaper with one of those circular wallpaper scoring frogs. Put some Simple Green solution in a bucket of HOT water. Use a sponge or rag to apply to wall. Wait a bit and scrape the wallpaper off. You may have to apply the solution again so it soaks through.
I have tried several different ways before, and for me personally, the best 2 ways to remove old dingy wallpaper that had been in my bathroom for at least 15 years, before I bought the house. The 1st one that did work was to fill a empty spray bottle 1-1.5 cups of apple cider vinegar, and add hot water till bottle is full and shake well to mix the mixture. Spray onto the wall covered in wallpaper, fully saturating. I recommend doing small sections at a time. Let it sit to soak in for about 5 minutes. Then gently pull up on a corner, slowly pull in the direction that it runs, as well as using a 2 inch plastic scraper. Gently sliding along as you pull on the paper. When you run into a stubborn spot that won't budge and starts to tear, stop! Respray your vinegar mixture on the area and let soak again, then proceed to tear off. If still won't come off, just continue on, and come back to this spot later. To do the problem areas that wouldn't come off the 1st time around, I found using an old cloth, soaked in a bucket of hot water, apple cider vinegar, and some Dawn dish detergent, mixed together helps. When the towel is completely saturated in this mixture, gently, squeezing off excess water, yet leaving ur towel as water logged as possible. Hold the towel directly onto the wall covering the stubborn wallpaper that wouldn't come off. For@as long as you can. When u remove the wet towel, the area of wall paper should look like it's somewhat see-through. Due to the solution soaking through the paper. Don't let it dry! Immediately, work on peeling that area off, Using ur scraper, fingernails,(if able to pick up any ends), or try rubbing the area with an old, soft bristled toothbrush. It works I promise!! And the 2nd method, (actually works the best), but, not real sure if this item is still on the market, I hadn't seen it in years! And I moved, so don't know where to find a distributor in my location. And that's gonna be a product sold exclusively from Shaklee. It's found in their cleaning products section. It's alittle expensive, but it's also super concentrated! It's called, Basic-H, or Basic-G, I get the two products confused, sorry! But you can read the uses from the 2 different products and figure it out, 1 is used for removing and cleaning grease, oil, stains, etc. And the other one is for Windows, sinks, floors, counters, etc, that's the 1 you need. I believe you mix a couple capfuls to a gallon of warm water, depending on the job. But, in the case of removing old wallpaper, definitely mix stronger! Still dilute, of course, just use more of product than called for. Put into a spray bottle and apply to wallpaper just as the above mentioned method. Made it so much easier! And of course, when u get done with all the removal of the paper, your gonna end up with a small mess on ur floor from all the applications running down the wall. But, the good news is that, everything u just sprayed on the walls, will easily mop right up, as well as leaving your floor with an effective, glossy, clean shine!!
I let it sit for about 15 minutes, and then use a plastic putty knife to scrape. If there is backing paper, I just repeat. I prefer it over steaming, it smells good and removes the extra glue as well.
Use a paint roller and dip it into to a paint tray that has hot water. Let the excess hot water roll off when you pull the roller back. Run the roller from the top down, it will soak the paper just enough to scrap it off with a large putty knife. This is easy to do. Good Luck!

You can use a wallpaper steamer to do this job. It's loosen the glue and make removal easy. They can be found at your local hardware store.
