A Brighter Color for Our Front Door

I’ve been rolling this idea around in my head for a little while. The dark grey paint on the inside of our front door had gotten really chipped over the last couple of years and I just really like the look of colorful interior doors. But I’m not really a big “colors person”. You may have noticed. I’m slowly coming around to the world of color a bit more lately, but it’s going to take some time. icon I wanted more of an “almost color” if I could find it. Something that would look clean and happy and fresh, but still not be like “Bam! I’m a blue door! Deal with it!”
Actually, I thought the perfect color would be the color of this Pottery Barn Pitcher/Vase thing that I’ve had in my dining room for the last couple of years. It’s blue, but I’ve never felt like it’s been an eyesore or something that I needed to take out of the room for a particular season. It’s kind of like the lightest blue/green/grey ever, which of course ended up being a bit difficult to find, so I decided to mix my own!
You can see the vase/pitcher thing in this photo here from my  Easter dining room.
Here’s how the hallway used to look. We had the dark, dramatic walls, but also a dark door color as well and it made the whole hallway feel like kind of a dark tunnel. This was a couple of years ago before we  installed our new flooring as well.
I ended up using Martha Stewart’s Antique Sky Chalky Paint and then I toned it down with a bit of grey chalky paint that I already had at home.
It was the perfect color! Well, maybe it’s actually a bit more saturated than what I was originally going for, but I do love it.
