Not only does this make a great addition to any garden, it's perfect for small spaces because it takes advantage of vertical space. The best part is that now all my herbs are all in one place!
The first step is to gather your pallet and your paint color of choice. We went with a bright blue but you can choose whatever color matches your style. Make sure you get in every nook and cranny for a clean, professional and finished look.
Note that this pallet has a bottom on every level when it's standing upright, so it was perfect for just placing the herbs inside.
If your pallet does not have these extra slats of wood, you can create a bottom with tarp and staples (so that whatever you plant doesn't fall out).
Here it is all planted and ready to go! I love how accessible all my herbs are now and how unobtrusive this is in my garden.
I added mint, parsley, and some other herbs and there is still so much more space to plant! And it doesn't have to be herbs- you could plant flowers or use it for garden storage. The choices are really endless!!

what did you put as a base to sit the plants in..did you make a shelf?
I really love this idea! One concern that I have is that the soil would be too shallow to sustain the plants during brutally hot, dry summers. Where do you live (state)? Will this soil be deep enough for summers in the Deep South?
What was used to help keep the dirt from rotting the wood from direct contact and watering?
