Here is a site that offers a list of typical houseplant pests and a list of non-toxic DIY ways to get rid of them. Good luck! http://savvygardening.com/natural-pest-control-for-houseplants/

Use liquid dish soap- like 1 or 2 DROPS in a spray bottle-- usually does the trick! I only use Ivory Liquid - no crap in the soap- perfumes etc., just the good stuff!

Just what I would have said, for the most part. I use Ivory dish soap, its clear and has no scent. If it's mealy bug, - little cotton looking things where the leaf and stem meet - rubbing alcohol and q-tips - get the q-tip wet with alcohol put it at the spot and twirl it, use the opposite end to go over a second time. Reuse the tip until you feel like you want to change it. Always find a place away from the the other plants - a hospital as I call it - this way there is hope that the others wont be infected. If you see little tiny white things fly around the plant when you disturb it, these are white fly. In a different spray bottle fill 2/3 with water then 1/3 rubbing alcohol and a couple drops of Ivory. (you always want to put the soap last otherwise you have to wait for the bubbles to settle down in order to finish filling it.) Spray this under the leaves and then over the plant. Good luck!
