How to get rid of flies?

The flys have been horrible this summer. I was wondering if anyone knows how to keep them away. We like to go out on the back porch in the evening and can hardly stand to stay out for very long because of the flys. I don't like to use chemicals or sit there and spend time swatting flys. There has got to be a better way.

I use fans, 2 of them, facing each other on opposite sides of the patio. Even though you may keep your property neat and tidy, those around you may not. Flying insects do not like the "wind" and go elsewhere.
Try buying RESCUE TSF Non toxic trap stick, they work pretty good
Half a Lemon with Cloves stuck in it. They don't like the smell!
