I wanted to create a sports themed wall for my son. Started with some of his favorite athletes photos and added some pictures of him. Next I wanted to display some of his medals. I had a shadow box so I used that. I didn't want to just throw the medals in and put it up. It needed to look more polished.
So I collected photos and medals. The hard part was finding an attractive and durable mounting technique. I tried glue dots, adhesive Velcro and fusible webbing, but none held up very well. Finally, I got black push pins from 99 cent store and dressmaker pins from JoAnn Crafts.
I played with the layout for hours and used the push pins for the photos and the dressmaker pins to attach the medals. However, the fusible web works perfect for adhering my fabric to the cork board.
The finished project along with more medals and pictures on the wall really made for a room my son loved.
First I collected a few photos of my son in action and receiving his medals.
Next, I picked some smaller medals so I could have more bang for my buck.
After I had my layout set I attached the photos with the push pins and used the dressmaker pins to secure the medals. Previously I had used the Velcro, but the medals were heavier than I had thought. Therefore, the medals fell during the night. As you can see, the final project looks pretty sharp. And my son loved it too..
