Henbit in my Bermuda grass which is dormant for winter.

My Bermuda grass is dormant for winter but I have henbit in it! I sprayed it before Christmas with round-up which got rid of it but it's back! Should I use round-up on it again, weed killer, and put a pre-emergence on it as well? Thanks Shirley

Shirley,Check out all the press coverage on Roundup. Roundup is cited as the most destructive herbicide known to humanity. It is considered a genetic disaster. I wish I could think up an alternative kinder to the environment, one that does not cause human and animal disease and death. Anyone?

@Shirley R I don't agree with Shirley. When used as directed roundup is safe. I use Roundup Extend Control which will kill weed seeds. Spray again while you grass is still dormant. Also available is pre-emergent spray which kills seeds. Go to your local large garden center to find it. Not all chemicals are deadly to the planet!

Try corn gluten meal as a pre-emergent, also it fertilizes and is all natural. You can always eat the henbit as well.

Mary Ann-The chemistry of Roundup and the disaster that is being caused . by its use worldwide is a fact and not subject to whether individual gardeners agree or disagree. There is no disputing the crop failures in India due to Roundup ready genetically modified seeds and the terrible situation developing in our own food supply due to the use of Roundup. Roundup on a lawn will end up in our water supply. The only company that touts its safety is Monsanto, its manufacturer. If you care about the environment please read: . "a team from CRIIGEN based in France compared the toxicity of various types of Roundup on sale with that of glyphosate alone, the breakdown product of glyphosate and one common adjuvant on three types of human cells (human umbilical, embryonic, and placental cells). The result was dramatic – the Roundup formulations caused "total cell death within 24 hours", which was significantly more toxic than glyphosate, its breakdown product and one commonly used adjuvant on their own. This effect was even observed at very low concentration: the researchers diluted Roundup by 100,000 times for the purposes of the experiments. This concentration is much lower than that used for the Roundup sprayed from tractors and corresponds to the residues that might be expected in RR soya after spraying."
