How do I get rid of saplings that grow at bottom of crab apple tree

    Best way is to hand pull them when you see them come up that way you get the root. Or you can use a weed whacker, but they'll come back. If suggest using a weed barrier around the tree but they'll grow on top of it! Unfortunately if you use a spray you run the risk of killing your tree. Hand pulling is the best way.

  • Cut them off and toss in green waste bin. Part of Nature's way of doing things. No way to prevent it.

    I heard that You have to "snap" them off at the base not cut them. If you cut them it will just cause the eye buds below the cut to start growing. This is not a cure obviously or I wouldn't have posted my question. Brand new suckers will spring up elsewhere around the roots. If you let a sucker get too big it's a real bear to try and "snap" off,
