Denim Look Wall Painting

We wanted to create a jean / denim look on the chair rail portion of my sons bedroom walls.

*Options I considered for this project: ...»

Purchased a kit from home depot was the only option we considered. We had used a lady to do some custom painting in one of our children's rooms in another house but decided to do it oursleves.

*Questions and unexpected events that arose during the project:

Never had done this affect with paint before

* Cost Comments:

Paint kit - $50; $25 paint supplies

*My motivation to do this project:

Redecorate my son's room from the original paint form the home builder. We wanted to create a jean / denim look on the chair rail portion of my sons bedroom walls.

*Project Steps:

Purchased a kite that included the paint, the scoring tool and tape at home depot -

Painted the chair rail portion of the wall with white paint in sections

Let the white dry for a day

Applied the blue/faux/translaucent paint and then scored with provided tool - this creates the faded look of the jeans

The key was to tape off each to create a 1/2 inch section that was painted twice so it was darker - this became the "Seam" of the jeans

After the blue drys then go back to each seam area and use the provided tape that is very narrow with small holes. Measure and line up a strip from top to bottom. Paint the whole with the white paint and use have a jeans / denim seam.

Materials:

Paint kit - $0.00

  • Clean new looking wall panels

Painted old paneling

We painted the old paneling in our family room. It was an old, dark wood color. We painted it using a shade of white and it looks so much better now. This project was super easy and cheap.

Advice:

Make sure to place drop cloths properly. We stained art of our carpet because we weren't careful enough!

Materials:

Paint - $0.00

Drop cloths/tarps - $0.00
