Painting Vanity Counter tops in a mobile home

I was thinking of painting with the chalkboard paint on a vanity countertop in a old 1978 Winston Mobile home but I am not sure what kind of countertop it is. Is it a plastic, formica, or laminate? I cant find anything out about what was installed in the mobile homes in 1978? I dont want to attempt painting it if it's impossible or if it will mess it up? Any ideas?

I love the chalkboard paint, I have a door with it on for years. But I have to say over time depending on what kind of chalk is used, its gets harder to clean. Maybe not a good idea on a counter top.

Since it is hard for paint to adhere to Formica, plastic, etc... you need to use a primer (I used BIN from Home Depot) which will allow the paint to adhere to the plastic.. If you decide to not use the chalkboard paint and use regular paint, give it about 3-4 coats of a shellac or lacquer to seal it. I did my kitchen counter tops and still looks good after 20+ years.

Rustoleum makes a countertop paint, use that before adding the chalkboard paint. The countertop paint comes in a lot of color choices. I bought mine at Lowes.

Some of the people have said that the Rustoleum countertop paint kit didn't hold up well. I, therefore, plan to use latex with several coats of sealer.
