With the salt lamp do they still work if the color is disappearing?

I've had mine on for years. Some of the color has faded, but, I think it still is doing its thing. I found out a while ago, that salt lamps need to be in use, or the salt will be affected by moisture.
I've had my 4 salt lamps for over 5 years and have kept them on the entire time. No issues ... but oddly the 4watt nightlight bulb in one of the lamps JUST NOW burned out! Whoooo
