We live in a prefabricated house and our inside walls are like pressed boards, we can hear the neighbours through them, and cant seem to hang anything on the slightly heavy side on them, Please could you help without cutting the walls to put noggins in ?

I live in the UK.

Maybe the Local Thrift Store or Secondhand or Yard Sale might have just what you need. Or use (Orange Crates or Cardboard boxes on sides.........

Our walls will not hold boxes to put books into they will come from the wall, and bring some of the wall away with it. We need something to put on the walls strong enough to hold anything on the heavy side in weight?

      Thank you for replying.

You can hang shelf standards on any residential wall. You will need to find the studs, vertical wall supports, which here in the US tend to be 16" apart and made of pine. A "stud finder" can be purchased for under $20 or you could use a thin nail and keep driving it into the wall and pulling it back out until you hit something solid. Attach shelf standards directly to those, shelf brackets attach to the standards and shelves rest on top of the bracket. noggins?

Hello Irene! I was thinking that adding pegboard to the wall would cut the sound and give you the opportunity to hang items including shelves. Take a look at the suggestions at the link below. Once you open the link, scroll down to the pegboard wall idea:

It is that type of board our walls are but of course without the holes.

      Thank you anyway.

Use Plasterboard Plugs that expand when knock them in. My previous suggestions were supposed to be free standing.

You can try a track system. It is a metal track that can be screwed into a stud. Then you attach the shelf brackets and shelves. They will hold a lot. Just make sure you're in the stud. My mom in law had a manufactured home and this is what she used.

I am sorry this won't work for you! Perhaps a local carpenter can take a look at your wall and situation. He can then suggest something more appropriate to suit your needs.

Do you have room for free standing book shelves? You can find them unpainted at stores or go to a thrift store and see what you can find. Wider ones may cut down on the noise also
