When do you harvest pumpkins?

I have discovered that I have a pumpkin vine growing with 16 mini pumpkins!

When do you harvest them? When they turn bright orange or when the vine starts to die off?

I pick when they are a nice, bright orange.

  I had the same thing happen this year. Last year I grew them on purpose, but had an issue with vine worms. I had one sitting on my porch for Halloween that apparently started rotting. One of my kids threw it away, but we didn't notice some seeds got loose. This year we spent half the summer trying to figure out what it was, then where it came from. Now we have pumpkins, which is great, since I process them for winter baking!

You have to wait until they are orange. If you pick them while they are green they won't turn orange. They only do this on the vine.
