Hi there Hometalkers, hope everyone is doing great! I've been busy making lights for inside and outside the house. I have wanted a solar light tower for outside for awhile now and the time has come for me to make one!!!icon
And this is what I made...

This pile of wood has produced several new things around my house. I have made a bench for my front porch, a standing shelving unit, wall hangings (art and shelves) from this pile of free wood a friend gave me! And now I'm making a solar light tower
Glass belong to another solar light.
I have seen many of these solar light towers so when I got those 4x4's I knew what I would be making as soon as I bought some solar lights! I found some I liked on Amazon, an eight pack for $20 (Maggift 8 Pcs Solar Powered LED Garden Lights, Automatic Led for Patio, Yard and Garden) ! Woo Hoo for me, now I can make two towers!! Woo Hoo for me again!!
I used four of the 4x4's I had in that pile, all different lengths so the tower would be staggered in height. I screwed the posts together on the inside and bottom along with glue.
I was thinking about painting it green with a flower/ garden type scene.
Hmmm... ? Not what I wanted, just not right. I have another idea, which was my original thought on this tower, maybe that will look better.
I will need to take the lights apart so they can be painted. I will also need to cover the screen and sides, I don't want to paint those parts or the bulb.
No need to paint the stakes because I won't be using them or the bottom of the light because you won't be able to see that part. The light cover I will paint inside and out, no taping needed!
I used a hammered copper spray paint. This is one of the solar sensors drying.
I'm liking this! It will match the mailbox and house numbers which are already copper! I let all the paint dry overnight.
I decided to keep it green, added another shade of green along with copper wire wrapped around the whole thing and spiraled the wire ends around a few marbles. I glued the solar lights to the top of each post and finished!!
Most of my plant stands are in the same colors so they all match!
I love the shadow it cast at night!
It is very pretty with all the plants around it! It's also a good source of light at night I'm going to make another one tomorrow! I'm not sure what I will do with that one? I'm not sure what colors I paint it either, maybe blue and silver or gold , black and white or ... decisions, decisions, decisions ?!I can't wait to start!! This was a pretty simple project to do and the cost for me was only $10 ( the cost of half of the lights and everything else was free or on hand). If someone wants to try this out you can get all of the materials at the local building supply store and most of them will cut the wood to the size you want for free! Thanks for looking and all comments are welcomed!!!

If it sits under the porch, how does it get enough sunshine to light up at night? My porch is covered and faces north and doesn't receive any direct sunlight. Will this still work?

Love it!! I've read your post twice but can't find any mention of those beautiful scroll work "boxes" the lights are sitting on. I don't see it in the material list either. Do you remember where you got those? I love those.
