I have older pine cabinets with that orangey colored stain....I heard that there is a product out there that you can use prior to painting where you do not have to sand the cabinets first...has anyone used this product, if so, did it work well....Thank you for the info....icon

Technically yes but...I always use steel wool and a generic liquid deglosser first, in a cleaning/lightly scrubbing motion. It helps the paint stick, and it cleans at the same time. I then go over the cupboards with a water dampened towel to remove the residue. I have painted cabinets numerous times with primer, without, sanding, no sanding etc. If you want them to hold up at least do that. It is worth it in the end. Either way, you have to clean them, and this really isn't an extra step.

Liquid Sander is fantastic. just paint it on and continue painting. I just found it this year, my favorite new friend. I got it at Home Hardware.

Hi Janet, it's my BFF too, but any generic one will work! I used it for the first time over 30 years ago. My Mom hired a painter, and he told her to sand all of her walls...yeah right. So I discovered this new-for-me product, and did all the walls...of course now looking back, TSP may have worked, lol. It also works great on funky 60's and 70's panelling too...my 20 year old paint is holding up well. I always have a bottle on the go. I do wipe it off with a damp textured cloth though, after hearing that some people had issues with the paint adhering, although I never did whether it was oil (years ago), acrylic or latex.

It is a liquid and comes in a can, You just brush it on and it says paint before it dries. I like to paint old furniture and it is so quick and easy. No sanding ever.

There is a lot of clear coat/shellac on the cabinets, does that make a difference........
