Can I get rid of ants forever!

I have a fairly large back yard and I have mounds of dirt scattered throughout. I know these mounds are evidence of ant colonies. I've used a borax sugar solution because I don't want to use anything more toxic and I can't tell if the problem is getting better or worse. HELP!!!

Some people swear by grits. Sprinkle it all over the mound and around the area too. You have to give the ants time to take it into the mound before it rains or you apply water. I haven't had a lot of luck with it, but if you don't want to use poison, it's the only thing I know of.

We had the same problem on an acre of land for a yard. We had mounds too. We tried everything. Then we learned about cornmeal. They take it to the queen and it kills the colony. We used Jiffy because it is sweet and they readily take it right into the nest. One box worked for about 5 applications. If you see a few ants reapply, it is a large colony. We had new mounds every spring, but we no longer had ant battles all summer long. I keep a few boxes of Jiffy in my pantry for new colonies, but believe me this works. Good luck, hope this helps. It is good for any kind of ant.

Diatomaceous earth works differently from other pesticides by using a mechanical reaction rather than a chemical one. When ants come into contact with DE, it absorbs moisture from their exoskeletons, and they begin to dehydrate. This will not only kill insects but help prevent future infestations as well.

It works in some areas, I don't know about yours,Sorry.

  • packaged cornbread mix that says it is sweetened and put it where they are coming in if you can find it, or even on your counter in a small lid. They will take it to the mound, everyone will eat it and die, they can't digest the cornmeal, but will take it because it is sweetened. Little goes a long way.
