when do I trim back all my bushes?

    If they have grown too big the best time to prune is after they have flowered. This does depend on what type of bushes you have of course as some like Hydrangea prefer spring. Only cut back to new growth, not into old wood as it may not recover.

    You can cut back at any time if you really have to but you may loose the next years flowers.

    if they are non-flowering deciduous then you can do it in winter or early spring before it comes into leaf.

    When it comes to pruning, I always use the old farmer's method which is: from spring thru fall you should only prune during months that have the letter "R" in their name. For example, it's OK to prune in April, but not OK in May. May does not contain the letter R. I have used this method for many years and it has always worked well for me.

    Usually after they bloom or late fall into winter.
