Hopefully, your lawn isn't completely dead, or you might be stuck replacing it. You can try watering every day to see if that brings back any life. Also, fertilizer may help.

Michele is right. If your lawn suffered the summer sun, it's like all the rest. Here in Oregon during the summer, we live by a little diddy the water board came up with. "Let it go brown till the rains comes back around". Before I spent a lot of money on water, I would designate a patch to test on. If water each morning and night helps, then you should know in about a week. Then you can decide where to go from there.

I know I'm reiterating what the others have said but try watering your lawn before spending a ton on products. If a fertilizer doesn't help then a ton of people in my area do a controlled burn on their lawn and it regrows. I have never done this before myself, however, a neighbor did this past season and their lawn looked awesome once it grew back! I believe that you'll want to wait until spring time to do this though. Good luck!

Whoops, just noticed she's from CA. Here in AL the laws are not as strict. Only if there is a no burn notice would you get fined here.

You have a perfect opportunity to consider if you really want the hassle of maintaining a typical lawn. There are alternatives and many are low maintenance. Search Google for "lawn alternatives".

  • Water the heck out of it if you have enough water to do so. Otherwise why not look into Xeriscaping? Can still have a beautiful yard, will be low maintenance and low water consumption. Here are a couple links for you to peruse.

Did you water on a constant basis, when was the watering done, should be first thing in the morning.DO NOT FERTILIZE A STRESSED LAWN.Once the lawn bounces back then consider giving it a light dose of fertilizer.
