You can set them out in baskets or glass jars....add them to wreaths, picture frames, etc. Make sure there are no bugs in them by putting them in the freezer for a week or so to kill anything that might be inside of them.
Glue them to a foam wreath for your porch or door.
I once collected buckets of gorgeous acorns, noting that many had a pinhole in them. I baked them in a low oven and tiny larvae like maggots crawled out and were done for. Come dead of winter, I gave them to the deer/squirrels. They adore them, but keep away from dogs, as they are toxic to them. As for application, hot glue on what you will or display in a bowl.
