How do you stiffen a cotton doily?

    With liquid starch. Find it in the detergent/fabric softener aisle.

    Use common laundry starch, just follow directions on the oackage.

    liquid starch... can be found in laundry isle. soak item in it, put plastic wrap over a piece Styrofoam board. use straight pins to block it out. let dry. i've also. heard of using a sugar solution, but the ants found it. white clear drying craft glue has also been used. set it to dry on plastic wrap or wax paper

    heavy starch is the answer and DFM is right about the pinning although heavy enough starch will hold it when you straighten it all out.

      we did some years ago with parafin wax that we used to seal jars.but it gives them a kind of plastic look.you can then lay them out & ruffel the edges.my mom did a table size one that way to go on old round table.if you dont want it that stiff just use heavy duty spray starch.will have a nice body.

    Depending on your project, you may want to use white school glue that dries clear. I have used a solution of 50% water and 50% glue on different fabrics and lay it on parchment paper to dry. It creates a nice firm surface that you can't even bend. I've use this method on cotton blend fabrics and burlap. I don't see why it would not work on doilies.
