Whether or not to call a plumber

Hi. I have a leak at the part of this pipe where it joins. Everywhere else is completely dry so it is definitely this pipe that is the issue. Does anyone out there know if there is a caulking or something else that can be used to stop this leak, or is it recommended that I call in a plumber? Thank you!

This is definitely a job for a professional.

  • It is something you can fix yourself if you have the tools. If not call a plumbler, but it should not be a big fix so get an estimate first. I hate seeing people being ripped off by shady contractors.

If you, a relative or friend knows a plumber that does side work, it may be cheaper that way. That looks like it may be part of the water main and that should definitely done by a pro to be done right, not just a handyman job. We are lucky enough to know a plumber that will work for friends after work and on the weekends for a fraction of the cost. He also will let us know if there is a potential problem in the near future with our aging copper pipes so we can fix it before it goes bad and will cost even more. Hubby can do a lot of those things, but at his age has trouble getting it done in tight spots that the plumbing always seems to be in.

I disagree. Take a pic and ask someone in a plumbing Dept. It might be as simple as a new piece of PVC pipe, plumber's tape, and a wrench.
