Hello Janetchippindale, I believe you are probably talking about a Lomandra species known as Imperata Cylindrica "Rubra" (aka Japanese bloodgrass). It is beautiful with its contrasting green base and blood red tips! Did you know that many states in the U.S. have banned the selling and buying of the plant because its rhizomes are so invasive? It only grows to about 4 foot tall and would look absoltely breath-taking as a large potted plant. Its red color intensifies with the amount of sunlight it gets, so to keep it gorgeous I guess one would want to give it full sun. I don't know how it would do over the winter however nor where you could keep it if it is in a large pot (it would be too heavy to move anwehre for storage). Below is a link about it.

:) Thanks for asking HOMETALK for answers :)
