Hello Dolores! Yes, cutting the grass when it is wet can cause those clumps and lumps. It can also result in an uneven cut or worse; for instance, a clogged mower. Plus, lumps left on your lawn can end up leaving brown areas on your lawn. You can be assured of the best results when you mow your lawn when the grass is dry.

Yes, as Janet said, mowing wet grass causes many issues, including the very real introduction of diseases and/or damage to your lawn!

Always cut dry grass and never cut it too short.

Cutting the grass when there is dew or after a rain and if it's to long causes this and my gardener sprays under where the blade is before returning it to the barn at night.

Yes, cutting the grass while it is wet will cause clumping, because of the tendency of the grass blades to stick together. That is why the underneath of your mower has more sticking to it, than it will have when your grass is dry, when mowing. If you clean the underneath of your mower, you should do it when it has cooled sufficiently; otherwise, if you wait too long, it will be much more difficult to remove the grass. I usually just use a water hose and do it while everything is relatively soft.

When the grass is wet, and you mow, the grass slips of the blade, and doesn't cut. The blade then rips up the dirt, because there is no grass. EJL.
