I have two-night stands the put together kind. They both have an oak look about them and I would like to change that on both. I do a lot of DIY projects here on my farm so I do have some knowledge. The backs are stapled on not sure what to do with that either. Except perhaps put a thin wood veneer on it. Come on guys and give me IDEAS.

You could replace the back with a 1/4" pc. of plywood.

Use chalk paint or mineral fusion paint . The only prep is to clean them up really well .

They say that you don't have to , but it can't hurt to sand lightly and wipe down before you paint .

Mix 1/3 cup of plaster of Paris and 1/3 cup of cool water; stir until completely smooth. Mix that with 1 cup of latex paint and stir thoroughly. This will make enough chalk-finish paint for one coat on a six-drawer dresser. Chalk-finish paint should not be stored and reused.

      Good luck !

A textured metal, beadboard/rustic wood or use part of a bamboo blind? Or wall paper or paint the cheesy back with a fun paint color.

    Many possibilities...

Hi Vrohde, you didn't say what kind of change you were going for, but I'm guessing not wood. They have some great peel-&-stick vinyl and even wallpaper that you could use to change the look to your hearts desire.

I know that cardboard type backing your referring to and I think just some inexpensive lauan would work-just cover or paint it to match the rest before attaching.

If you're not planning on using them as nightstands, you could put a piece of wood, an old door covered in glass, etc and make a desk.

Looking forward to seeing the results!

could also glue fabric to change the color or even use denim for the backs then bedazzle the denim or mgith be cute to use jean pockets for even more "storage" or tucking in little knickknacks

I would paint it, but that is me. It's a quick and inexpensive change. Contact paper comes to mind or wallpaper border to add an accent. YouTube has excellent videos on how-to's for these kind of projects.

Hi Shira, I would roll it with a paint roller with primer. Then roll again over the primer when dry with color of your choice.
