Plexiglass covering for fluorescent lighting?

I have florescent bulbs in my 1980's bathrooms. Their boxes are covered with plastic drop in plexi-plastic type sheets that are cut to fit. Does anyone have alternative suggestions or easy ideas on replacing this type of bathroom lighting? thank you!

I have seen an all-over stencilled design that was a nice change from the plain white plastic. Also, a friend with a bit of artistic talent sketched leaves and vines around the edges and randomly applied colored glass beads to the vines/leaves with glue gun - looked great.

Not sure what kind of look you're going for, but you can ditch the drop in plastic and replace with decorative metal inserts (normally used for grates and rad covers. This can give you many different looks and at very low cost.
