How does WD40 remove scratches from car paintwork

    it softens paint so it sort of smears it, makes it flexible and thins it out and spreads over scratches.

    Using a clay bar found in cleaning for auto will work much better and will not "smear" the paint.

    Sometimes it will remove something on top of the paint, it does not repair paint. So if you have a black mark from a rubber bumper hitting the paint it may remove that, but if the paint is actually removed via a scratch it will not put matching paint into that scratch. You have to fix paint with paint. Look for a paint pen that matches your make and model at an auto supply store. Use frog tape to mask around scratch and use a light hand with the paint pen, it's better to apply several thin coats than one thick one. Polish or compound to blend when dry. Follow the directions that come with the paint pen or ask for help at the store.
