cheap would be going to the restore of habitat for humanity and getting partial cans of paint from them. ie whites with same base, and pints for trims. easy would be to rent a paint sprayer.....not sure about the cheap part, but some diy big box stores have sprayers for rent. there are smaller sprayers that in my area are about 30us to purchase. if you spray.. don't forget the additive that makes it go thru the sprayer head better.
To fool the homeowners association? Haha, you could try just painting the trim to spruce it up. But unfortunately if you're doing the whole thing, you could save either money by doing it yourself, or save time and hire it out. My mom painted her own single story house, and so I know it can be done, but it wasn't easy and it was very messy. Also, remember to pour all the paint into a big bucket so you don't get weird patches between gallons. And cardboard to cover trim as you go.
spraying is most economical, but can be time consuming if you have to use tape/cover and cut in areas to be avoided.
Paint it yourself @ your leisure, or just paint just the trim as our team at Housetalk suggested. Get a few estimates, and see what they want to just paint the house. The trim is harder to paint, then the whole house. Be sure you get a detailed contact, how long it will take. Make sure the dates are consecutive days, or this can turn out to be a 2 week project. Check with the BBB on his rating, and find out if he has insurance. Good Luck!
I don't think you can skimp on paint. Good paint is essential. Spend a little time and check prices before you buy. Look for rebate and or coupons offers on paint and assessories. I just received an eighty dollar rebate on concrete stain from Home Depot. You can however, use a rental sprayer and do the work yourself. As it should be, labor is a huge chunk of any job you hire a professional to complete.
