How can I jazz up my boring wrap around porch?

My porch wraps half way around my house, it does not have railing and honestly seems to take away from my house. It is so large and I can't seem to come up with anything that gives it that much needed WOW factor. Any suggestions?

posting a picture would really help!

A few ideas in the meantime? Think about installing some wooden railing.

Start to envision how you'd like to setup additional seating, porches are for lounging so think about whether benches or chairs would work best for your space, maybe even both! would a cafe table between a set of hairs get any use? now accessorize your seating; outdoor throw pillows, cushions, potted plants!

Budget is the issue I'm having with the railing. We are going this route eventually but in the meantime I am looking to work with what I have. Good call on the cafe table, I will be looking into that, thank you!!!

Why not put a rail up and make it look like a picket fence. If your house is grey in colour pain the picket white. Put a large pot every 6ft with a nice leafy plant in it and a couple of garden chairs. Should make a difference

Think what is lacking before anything else. You mention railing and if that is what you want what type would fit in - wood, metal, formal or ornate, white, wood effect, bare metal or coloured and if so which colours. Is it just lacking interest, plants and planters, hanging baskets, new coat of paint etc. Is it in need of turf, redesign etc.

Imagine looking at your house as a buyer and RELENTLESSLY pick its faults. Write them down as very specific 'hates' list and then sit down for an hour with a tea or coffee and a cake and look at specific possible answers in a brainstorming sort of way. You could also invite family or other friends you value the opinion of to chip in as a sort of brainstorm party.

Think of your porch as an extension of your home. I love wrap-arounds. I wish I had one, isn't that the way it goes,we want what we don't have....ha! Search thrift stores and yard sales for yard furniture. Most stores also are clearing out summer items so you can probably get reduced prices on outdoor furniture and cushions. Create sitting areas for reading and or just talking. Hang two swings facing each other and add colorand coziness with cushions and pillows. Place two or more rockers together and place a magazine rack between the rockers. For added warmth, add pillows and an outdoor throw over the rockers. Use concrete pots and plant seasonal plants for color. Search on-line for ideas and pictures of decorated wrap-around- porches. Like I said, I don't have a wrap-around, I only have a small porch and a large patio, it I will attach a picure of each so you can see what I mean. Have fun and enjoy you poach.

If I had a porch like that, I would put a swing in and wave to my neighbors as they drive by. Any kind of outdoor furniture would make it homey. Maybe a table too. Lots of plants and flowers to dress it up.
