    There are a couple of ways to do it depending upon your sewing skills (or lack thereof). The traditional method, and one that works better for a lined shade, uses little rings sewn vertically at the edges and in the middle of the shade. The string is then threaded through the rings and pulled to create the folds. The other method involves using a mini blind as the base, the excess slats are removed and the remaining slats are glued on the material. There are very good step by step directions for either method on Pinterest. I have done both types and find that the mini blind method works better if the shade needs to be operational, the sewn method is better on a decorative shade with lining
