Why avoid Hometalk?

This website forcefully removes its content from Pinterest. It's not like anyone is making money by sharing things on Pinterest but Hometalk actually goes so far as to file DMCA complaints regarding ideas on Pinterest that come from here, even if the idea is not remotely original, and can't be copyrighted. Don't bother with Hometalk. Just use Pinterest.

  • Ah, that explains why the pin buttons are no longer available . . . So sad, I liked being able to pin stuff too. I still love Hometalk though . . . Unless a person goes through the patent, copywright or trademark process to protect their original content, anything is fair game. Exactly why bloggers need legal disclaimers . . . Such a tangled legal mess . . .

    • I just had two pins removed but were recipe and food related. Here is what is happening in part. People are stealing other peoples work and claiming as their own original content. When the party that really originated finds out, they can complain (and should), Pinterest (or any other responsible social media provider) has a legal responsibility to take it down and notify all parties and why. It brings new meaning to the term intellectual property, and why people are so obsessed with protecting their work.

Anything I do, I want to share, take it and run with it, one up me, I am more interested in the creative and artistic process. Not everyone feels that way unfortunately, but I respect that too. To each his own. And exactly why I will never start a blog, the legal ramifications are mind boggling and the extra insurance premium is not something I wish to pay. If ever an epiphany strikes me, I will be sure to do my due dilligence and protect my work, but until then have at it!

I have the pin button as an add-on and I keep pretty much all my hometalk stuff in a separate folder but it is so sad that people can't pin from here. Many of the bloggers things have come from pinterest or at least somewhere else. Try looking up slime and you'll see thousands of posts - or look up Christmas pine wreath and you find hundreds that look pretty much alike. Does putting on a different flower make a difference? So many things are not patentable and do not belong to anyone that it's crazy to have this kind of thing happen. So sad.

I usually never pin from Hometalk as I now live in a condo so there's no gardening or woodworking, etc. that I can do and I've done a LOT of craft items over the years and am pretty capable at decor, so I've been told.

However, there were two Posts last week that I thought I would pin (for a change!) but noticed the pins were missing. Now, I understand why! Thanks for clearing this up.

I'm not sure where you get your information Steve but I have posted many things to Pinterest from the Hometalk site without any problems. This site is a community of like-minded individuals who enjoy sharing information with each other.

I like this site because it's just everyday people sharing ideas. Sometimes the Pinterest bloggers are just too over the top to me.
