depends on the look you are going for. If you paint use chalk paint. 2 coats and then wax. Be sure to stay neutral. That way when you sell someone will like them.

If you've got wood cabinets refinishing is nicer, but if the cabinets are a thin veneer over particle board, then it is possible to nick or sand away enough of the veneer to make it trickier. The question for you is which do you like-- the painted look or the look of real wood? If you like real wood enough, you'll put up with the hassle of refinishing.

Paint has so many possibilities-- the gruffy look of chalk, the pristine look of white or another color, the depth of color seen through a glaze. I'd look through lots of pictures of various kitchens until you see something you like and then have at it.

What are the cabinets made of? What look are you trying to achieve? Honestly this is your decision and no one else

Depends on the look you're going for. Even if you paint them they can always be restored to the original. I'm in the middle of painting mine now, white uppers and olive lowers. Hard work but looking good. Good luck!

I just painted mine 2 weeks ago in a very high gloss paint and they look great. I wanted high gloss because it's easier to clean. My next attempt will be painting my kitchen counter and back splash.

painting is cheaper, refinishing usually looks better unless you're very detail oriented and have the time to devote to doing the paint job really well- sanding before and between light coats etc
