Painting Dark Brick

You can paint the outside brick, but you'll first have to powerwash it, repair any loose mortar, caulk and possibly seal the brick. To paint the brick, I'd use a sealer, a good primer and then the spraypaint the outside. You can rent spray equipment for the job.

Millions of people paint brick! Every home renovation shows some sort of brick update. Just do your homework, use the appropriate products, do not rush and no matter what you choose it will turn out great! I do suggest testing or perfecting your finish in an out of the way area first before jumping in. That way you can decide on a small patch whether to proceed or try something else.
