If you are renting, then do not do anything physical to the home before first getting the approval of the landlord in writing.

Even though you might consider it a decorating improvement, you never know what someone else, namely the owner of the property, and the holder of your damage deposit, might think about it, or how they might react.

If you are bored or feel you have some time to do something crafty, then stick to projects that are not attached to, or will involve cost to change back to the original structure or decor.

No, wallpaper will not adhere properly to textured walls.

You could cut some thin board to size and cover that with whatever you want and just use double sided tape to hold in place. That would be fairly easy to remove without damage.

im seeing a lot of hype about those peel and stick tiles for backsplashes. They're renter friendly and easy to apply!

It appears to be nail pops, coming out of the sheet rock. The first part of your question I don't understand. Please rephrase your question with more detail. EJL.

If your landlord gives you permission, give the area a skim coat with joint compound. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mob1K_P_L8U then prime, and your good to go.

You can always find pictures (garage sales, dollar store, thrift stores) on a similar theme and hang them. I did that on one wall of our kitchen - behind the sink because I have no window. It livened up the space and of course is easily removed/changed.
