Go to your local nursery and look around for ideas. They only stock plants that will thrive in your area and can also give you advice for planting and maintenance. Take pictures while you are there for inspiration.
If you have any golf courses around you, go visit them. They have arid landscaping along with green turf. Because of the high water usage for the turf, they have found ways to make low water usage plants look lush.
