RENEWING 50 + YEAR OLD BATHROOM SINKS

Still needing suggestions for renewing two 50+ year old bathroom sinks. Seems like a gal I use to clean for had hers renewed and it looked like they were painted but surely it had to be a special paint. Only thing I can think to do is replace them. The vanities are great--it is just the bowls that look yucky.

If you want to pay to get it done, the folks that redo bathtubs may be able to do it.

  • You can have them reglazed for a fraction of what it costs to replace. I have reglazed sinks and tubs in a number of homes - if properly cared for, will last another 50 years.

There are companies that will use an epoxy-based paint on them. Try Googling "bathtub reglazing" to find local pros.

You can also buy the kit and do it yourself. Generally, you have to remove rust, sand down the old finish and then paint on the epoxy. The directions are on the kits.

Even after having this done professionally, you need to be careful with the sinks and not bang them up. The epoxy coating may have to be re-done over time.

Thank you very much--I thought they could but was not sure just what the coating was. I will check it out.0
