Check your city codes first or call the code inforcement office. My city has restrictions about how many yard sales a year you can have, and how long they can Last. We are allowed a moderate number of signs and the codes tell where the signs can be displayed. Having anyone waving signs or flagging drivers is only allowed by permit. And we are supposed to have the sale on the side of the house with the driveway. Since at my end of town the driveways are all on the back, then alley sales are the norm. It is common courtesy to let the neighbors sharing your end of the alley know a yard sale is coming because parking will be a problem (you hope), Make sure you have enough liability and bodily harm insurance. Best wishes 😇

    1. Pour your favorite beverage into a very large glass, 2. List everything you want to sell with the price you think it's worth. 3. Realize that you will never get those prices at a yard sale. 4. color code your items with stickers with no more than 3-5 price groups, ie: yellow, $5, red $1, etc. 5. Put up large signs with address bigger than words "yard sale". 6. Start early in a.m. and shut down at 6 p.m. on last day. 7. Donate all non-sold items to charity (get receipt and take pixs for income tax). 8. Pour your favorite beverage into very large glass and count your money!

Plus if you are on a neighborhood email group like Nextdoor, advertie there too.

I am not an app user but they have tons of them for your phone too.

And make sure your directions are clear, give a list of items offered and run at least 2 days if you can do it Friday, Saturday and Sunday for best results if you have a ton of stuff or multi family.

Oh, boy I consider myself a queen of yard sales! Over the years I have had many very successful yard sales. This is my method: the old saying "shine sells" I have everything in clean neat condition. I have everything PRICED. This is crucial, because the human tendency is to say a low price when caught off guard. I have a cloth on every table. I display things attractively. I put an ad in the paper or craigslist. Signs at the end of the street. Partly I spend so much effort because I love to give and go to yard sales and because it is actually a creative expression. Have only one person handle the sales (that was always me) and no fanny pack to make change, have an actual cash box. Have plastic bags for people to bag their things but don't do it for them. If you have helpers have them wear an identifying piece of clothing. We always used a red bandana worn around our necks. Have an opening time and stick to it. Do not do early sales. If physically possible screen off the sales space from the street. . . my sales were always in my back yard with maybe one "teaser" piece out front. Finally have a bowl of water for dogs!

I came back to address Bijous comment. I never reduced a price until a specified time. A one day sale 2 or so in the afternoon. A two day sale, never on the first day. There are yard sales and then there are yard sales. They are all work, so you might just as well maximize your take!

And invite your friends! Some can set up in your driveway with you, and others will stop by. You get more traffic with a "multi-family" sake too!
