While I love drooling over the high end decorative pieces at places like Pottery Barn and Z Gallerie, I usually end up going with a DIY project to save money and enjoy some creative fun. This DIY Fall Home Decorating Vase Project is a great way to upcycle an old sweater and add a cozy feel to your mantle. Not only is upcycling a green choice that saves money but it also makes it so easy to coordinate items to match your current home decor and theme. The sweater is so fun and seasonal for fall right into winter. I used several different fabrics to create some interesting texture contrast.

DIY Fall Home Decorating Vase Directions:
Gather your supplies.

Cut sleeve off of sweater so that it is an extra  3”-4” more than the height of the vase.

Slide it down over the vase, hemmed sleeve first so that it just comes to bottom of vase.

Fold excess sweater inside.
Measure width around vase and cut your burlap to ½” longer.

Fray burlap on the top and bottom seam by pulling off several horizontal threads.

Wrap around center of vase and secure with hot glue, try to match your burlap seam with the sweaters seam ( you can hide this in back).
Cut a piece of lace to the same length and line up your seam with the others, hold in place with hot glue.

Fill with whatever you hand- silk flowers, eucalyptus, wheat, or  small twigs (as shown here). You could even spray paint them gold or silver for a little extra flair.
