there was at one time a spray can the had sprayed a popcorn type finish....that was 3 houses back. Most people are stripping the popcorn and going with a flat ceiling.
You can buy spray cans of "popcorn ceiling" repair foam type spray. I have seen it at Walmart in the paint/hardware dept.
You can purchase a can of spray texture for the popcorn ceiling. Make sure it's water based and shake the can well. Spray in even strokes about 12" from ceiling to prevent spots or heavy buildup. I've used this and it works great. Best of luck.
Homex has various textured ceiling spray foams in a can, you can buy at a home store like Home Depot, Lowes or True Value.
I would consider removing the ceiling or covering the ceiling instead of repairing it
Take a picture of a part of the ceiling that still has the "popcorn" on it and take it with you to compare the textures. Ask the employee from that department for help and they can help you get it as close as possible and probably give you some really good tips, too.
Hardware stores sell a can that you can spray it on. May not look the exact same but unless you want to look at that forever, get the rest wet and get the rest off.
You're welcome. Keep posting those questions here on Hometalk. That way we can continue learning from each other.
