I found a new favorite apple-Honey Crisp.
I live near orchards so I purchased a bushel of apples. I got 30 lbs of apples for $30.
That's $1 a pound.
Wondering what to do and they are too good for apple sauce, I looked up if I could freeze apples for pie later on.
Yes, you can and here is how.

Wash the apples and if you have a peeler use it!I found out after using it half way through that I could remove the slicer part for peeled but whole apples. That would be for thicker slices if you prefer.
This is great for pie, tarts or any apple dessert.
Adjusting this screw makes the cut deeper or less deep according to the kind of peel you have to get through. I had a bowl of water & lemon juice to prevent browning.
In a gallon baggie mix your recipe and form into your pie pan. This way it freezes to the shape of the pie plate. Pop it out of the plate after it's frozen and return to the freezer untilits ready to use. Now you have pie filling with fresh apples during peak time to use during the holidays. I now have 4 pies, 2 for each holiday. Now when holiday prep is here and I'm busy, then I can just pop these into the crust. Now that I have time, I can make my favorite fresh crust when the time comes. I used basic cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar, lemon juice and gluten free flour. When I bake the pie, before adding the frozen filling I will put small tapioca on the bottom to soak up extra water so it's not mushy. Bake the pie, frozen like any store bought pie. But this is home made!
My wonderful peeler, cooler and slicer I purchased 20 years ago. Until tonight I didn't think of sweet potato chips which will be my next project. I can also make scalloped potatoes with this. It will make a core but I can just slice that up and use it.
Suggested materials:
  • Apples   (Orchard)
  • Spices I had on hand.
