Peg Board in Bathroom

by Nikki N
Would peg board in a bathroom hold up under the high humidity? Curious if I need to seal it with something before installing. I'm redecorating my kids bathroom to a cars theme and think the peg board will work nicely. =)

It sounds like a very fun idea, but pegboard is made from wood fibers that are made with a steam and pressure treatment so it's not recommended for high humidity areas. Since it's not very costly you could try coating layers of polyurethane or exterior paint over the front and back, making sure to fill in all the holes too. If you miss a spot and water got in you'd have swelling though. There is plastic pegboard available in sixteen in tiles on HoDe.com. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Crown-Bolt-16-in-x-16-in-Plastic-Pegboard-17961/202249707

IT will not hold up real well in moist environment unless you are able to fully seal it after painting. However going to be really difficult making sure all those holes are filled. Might be better off with a perforated metal that will hold up better in moist environments. Check Lowes, they may have something you can use that works better. How about this metal and use an awl to puncture and add chrome or stainless hooks to hang things.

Home Depot also has this metal looking adhesive panels you can put up easily. Maybe they have something that could work for your design. Near kitchen appliances.

I love just imagining what you would do with it. I'd clear coat (as suggested) traditional pressed peg board or maybe paint as to better complement your design... look around their may be other material options as @Z suggested above. Good tips. Good luck.

Great idea. Pegboard comes in plastic which would be best for this purpose. You can find it at Amazon, Home Depot, Staples. I would love to see your project when it is done.

The plastic pegboard can be painted to match the bathroom using spray Fusion paint. I'd go with that before standard pegboard or metal. Another alternative is a wall grid.
