I have remodeled my office at work and am now putting the finishing touches on it. I wanted a woodland theme so I could feel peaceful while working at a stressful, but rewarding job....I'm a nurse :) I have gotten great feedback on what I have done so far and will post my completed project soon! I need something to hold my pens on my desk, so I came up with the idea of making a pen holder out of a little wooden bird house :)
I bought this little birdhouse at WalMart for .99 cents :). I had the stones and clear gloss sealer.

I removed one side of the roof so i had somewhere to store my pens. I removed the perches too. I put them back on later.

I didn't have the right color of stain on hand so I just used my Old English scratch cover and stained the edges of the roof, base of the birdhouse, openings for tiny birds icon and the perches. It's going to be sealed later, so the scratch cover will work just fine.
I found gray caulking to use as my "cement". I wanted my stone house to look as authentic as possible. icon
This next step does not have to be exact. You just smear some caulking on your bird house ......
...and start placing stones. I liked working with the caulking because it gives you time to rearrange the stones if you need to, and it cleans up easily. This went pretty quickly. You just put stones into your caulking and squish it into place, making sure you have calking in the spaces between the stones. I put the perches back in their places. I took a wet Q-tip and cleaned up any excess caulking on the stones. Now I need shingles for the one side of the roof, so naturally I thought of pine cones. I clipped the seeds off the pinecones and hot glued them in rows starting at the bottom of the roof and working up.
I wanted to seal my project so it's protected and will be more durable....and bonus....it adds shine!
I sprayed 2 light coats of sealer on it and my project is complete.
This is the back....
....and one side.
Here it is with my pens. I will post a whole reveal of my office soon!

Would this hold up outside? I love bird houses and have one from the previous home owners. I’m thinking of either putting the birdhouse in a flower garden or adding it to our porch decor. You have given me inspiration!! Thanks!!
