It's time to put up or shut up. This bottle has been an idea in the making for many months. Today is the day I put up or shut up.
.
I began by gathering the supplies I might be using for this challenge and by cleaning the bottle. Remove any and all labels as well as the adhesive thoroughly. I wipe the bottle down with alcohol - NO, not that alcohol, rubbing alcohol. This removes any fingerprints, oils and debris.
In this case, I use the 70% (cheaper). The only difference between the 70% and the 91% is the drying time.
For the first layer of lace, I use Mod Podge to insure good contact all around and to help secure the next layers to take place.
For the second layer of lace, I just ran a bead of hot glue around the upper seam line. I then added small (10cm) iridescent pearl drops from my "itty bitties collection", again using hot glue. This I do around the entire parameter.
The flower applique is from a lace runner, trimmed and hot glued. The applique has a second layer to the top flower which gives it a 3-D effect. Rhinestones are added to the pistle area in two different sizes. At this point, I want to play around with some different accessories to see what looks best. Be back later with my final selections.
Many months ago, I bought a wedding dress at a local thrift shop - yes I know I looked a little silly at the time (NEWS FLASH: 75 year old buys wedding dress). I had looked at these types of appliques on E-bay and they were selling for $7+ each. So $25 (half off) seemed like a bargain that had dozens of these on the dress. I used two of these on my altered bottle.
After putting them in place, the appliques were applied using hot glue.
The final touches include the "rhinestone necklace" and the finial. The finial is from a curtain rod, which I painted a flat black and adorned with pre-glued strip rhinestones. The finial was my greatest challenge. I tried several options until I fell on this one..This is the bottle I envisioned many months ago and have been collecting laces, jewelry and appliques for all those months. Thanks to this challenge, I found the motivation to finally complete the vision that has resided in my head for quite some time. Today, it became a reality, thanks to a little push from Hometalk. I hope you like it.

It's lovely and you did a great job, but does it have a function or does it just look pretty?

Katherine, thank you for your comment, glad you liked it. This project taught me to re-think everything, time to re-imagine everything we do.
