After making a couple of scarecrow fall wreaths I had left over bits of the flowers. I started sticking random flowers and leaves on the stems and I stuck them in a twine covered bottle that I made ages ago. And of course when I was done and it looked so cute I beat myself up for not taking pictures of what I did along the way. I'm still new to this sharing what I do kind of thing. Oh well I needed to go to the store for yarn and right next to my new Joann's is a new Dollar tree and every Dollar tree it seems has different stuff. So it seemed like a good excuse to go in and see what they had.
This was the first one the one made with the left over bits, The one I forgot to take pictures of along the way. No worries go buy more flowers I think my step daughter and my grandmother need some pretty fall arrangements too.
These are the scarecrow wreaths I made. That is a different project post if you want to look that up. I used a total of 8 different flower stems for these the left overs was used to make the arrangement in the first photo. The steps that follow were purchased to recreate that. If you have left over flowers then this will cost you next to nothing. If you go to the dollar tree and buy flowers you should get at least 3 different looking things. I got 8 different things. a couple of different flowers, different styles different colors. I also got different leaves oak, maple etc. And lastly I just love the sprig looking things so I got some of those. The first Dollar tree had cattails the other one didn't, the first also had sunflowers and I couldn't find those at the other one so I went with what I could find. This can also be done seasonally with different colors. Right now the Dollar tree has fall colored flowers and leaves. I can't wait to see what they have for winter and spring.
OK my supplies, a twine covered jar, I already had and a pained mason jar that I just painted yesterday. The silk flowers I stripped off 90% of what was on the stems this is pretty much what it looked like when I was working with the left overs for the first one. I also had wire cutters for cutting the stems down to give different degrees of height to the arrangements.
To create varying heights, poke your nearly bare stem in the jar of choice. Take the wire cutters and cut off part of the stem. Then put a flower or leaf back on the stem. Repeat until you like what you see. If you have too many stems once you get the look you want you can snip off the extras close to the main stalk, no one will ever see this.
Here I have put several different flowers, leaves and sprigs on one stem. Repeat for as many stems as you need to fill your jar/bottle.

I was having a little trouble getting the stems to stay put in the wide mouth mason jar. So I rummaged around in the garage until I found a box that had some Styrofoam packing material in it. I pressed the jar in the foam until it left an impression then I took an exacto knife and cut it to fit the opening. I sprayed the inside of the jar with spray adhesive.
As I pushed the foam through it flipped and landed on it's side. You can see where bits of it stuck to the adhesive as I reached in to turn it. Oh well you won't see it through the paint or the flowers. It's all good. Also it takes a while for the spray glue to dry enough to hold the foam with out it slipping. I was impatient and poked the flowers in anyway. By morning it was stuck in there real good and didn't move at all. In hindsight I probably could have poked the stems in the foam then pushed it through the opening into the adhesive. My guess is it wouldn't have flipped or slipped around while I was pushing stems in. Oh well live and learn. icon
The arrangement in the painted mason jar. This one is going to my grandmother.
The arrangement in the twine covered bottle. It is not a wine bottle it was a lemonade bottle the opening is about twice as wide as a wine bottle. This one is off to my stepdaughter.
And here is all three arrangements. You can see the 2 on the left have completely different flowers than the one on the right. That is what I mean by all the Dollar tree stores carry different stuff.

So weather you create one with left over bits or if you go buy stuff just to make something similar. They come out beautiful either way. Somewhere in storage I have a box full of this stuff. I wonder what I can create from that. icon
